Mission Committee
The responsibilities of this committee consist of annually discerning those local, national, and international needs which the Bremen Union Church will support.
The Mission Committee makes recommendations to the congregation of ways in which this support will be offered, including amounts of cash donations and donations of goods and services.
The committee shares the responsibility with the pastor of educating the congregation about our mission ministries.
The Bremen Union Church supports the Waldoboro Food Pantry, which serves the towns of Bremen and Waldoboro, in cash plus donations of foodstuffs brought each Sunday by the congregation.
The church has embraced a request by the food pantry to take as our mission the stocking of the food pantry with personal care items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, razors, and the like.
Each year the church has supported the Heifer Project, the Maine Salvation Army, and the Damariscotta-region People-to-People Thanksgiving basket drive.
The Bremen Union Church has also sponsored a campership for a local child and sent money for hurricane disaster relief to Louisiana.
The church, through the Sunday school, provides gifts for several needy children at Christmas. Women of the church and their friends make knitted and quilted blankets for ailing children and infants which are distributed through Kno-Wal-Lin Home Health and Hospice.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Plympton-Shattuck fund, administered by the Boston Foundation, the Mission Committee has been able to disperse money this winter for emergency fuel and food needs to residents of the town of Bremen.
