Deacons
Bremen Union Church is a community of faith that actively seeks to live out the command of Jesus to "love one another." The Deacons are the spiritual support for our Pastor. They also serve the congregation in many ways:
Assist in pastoral care: By visiting members of the church and the community who are in the hospital or nursing homes, house bound or simply in need of companionship, the Deacons help the Pastor provide fellowship, prayer, encouragement, and the Word.
Prepare the sanctuary for worship: Lighting the altar candles, decorating with seasonal flowers or greens, distributing hymnals and Bibles, greeting newcomers, and monitoring the guest book are part of these preparations.
Participate in worship services: Deacons read the scripture passages chosen by the Pastor, prepare and serve Communion, and collect tithes and offerings.
Work closely with the Pastor: Deacons notify the Pastor of any needs for praise or prayer, act as a “sounding board” for new ideas or concerns, provide encouragement, and continually keep the Pastor and her well-being in their prayers and in their hearts.
